The morning after the Ice Breaker Gather, Music Woman, Kreepy Kelli and I hit the road to head north to Connecticut. On the way up, we stopped and snagged A Flower for Mildred and Concord Point Lighthouse. We were searching for A Flower for Mildred in almost a foot of snow, and we were dubious at first about that park in general, but it worked out just fine. :) I was assigned to take tickets at the school basketball game that night, but since there were a couple of free hours in between, I was compelled to run out to Mansfield! I found KJs Best (easy driveby) and then completed the Elephant Safari N, since I'd started it during the Monster Mash. And then I grabbed the Cupid box, along with its parasite. The other box that I looked for at Owen's Mere was sadly missing. :( After one of my piano lessons, I headed out to Burlington and snagged four boxes, despite the snow. :) The coolest parts of that day were the old prison in the Nasahegon State Forest and the fish hatchery at Fishers of Men. I had an itching to return to Coventry and snag some of the boxes I hadn't found yet. Because of the weather, I kept it to the short ones. This day was still cold, but clear. I called in sick to work because I wasn't feeling well in the morning, but by that afternoon, I was feeling much better and I was starting to have the urge to hit the trail again. The park where the Kill Bill series and the West Highland Terrier are hidden was paved and the trail itself was easily passable. Then I headed over to Hebron and grabbed Peggy Dow. Why? Honestly, because I'd just bought my CT atlas, and I have such a weakness for cemetery boxes that once I pinpointed its location, I couldn't resist a good drive-by. Now this... this was a long day! When I set out, it was freezing! The wind was whipping around that fort! But as the day went on, it warmed up more. A word of warning to everyone out there... the stamp is missing from the second Haley Farm box (the one by KAren). This is probably due to the fact that there is a geocache quite nearby. The stamp isn't in the cache either. :( However, there is a bag of crayons in the letterbox now. Grab the orange crayon out of there and draw that image into your logbook. And count it as a find. :) After all, you found it! Not much today. Just a little boxing in the snow after a piano lesson. Just a Saturday of surprises in the Meshamosic State Forest! :X This would be the day that I was showing some clear "just one more" syndrome. I enjoyed a full day at Gay City State Park (I love the cemetery there best!) but I still wasn't satisfied, so I drove up to Enfield, where I knew there were drive-bys to be had. I dropped my brown marker somewhere near The Spot. I also scored TWO hitchhikers there! I decided to get the New Britain boxes after my piano lesson that morning, and then had a photo shoot for the musical I was performing in. After that, I headed home and decided I had time to do another short series, so I picked up some of Music Woman's older boxes. A nice day during February break in New London County. I had a hard time following the trails in the preserve where the Fab Four were with all the snow on the ground, so after finding just two I went elsewhere and resolved to finish that series another time. I bumped into Kelli and Donny at the Manchester Library completely by accident, and told my tutoring student that I couldn't work with him that day. He'd been a jerk the day before. I had earned a day off. I gave him some homework and then we went to get this Bike it or Hike it box by the Connecticut River. Grabbed a driveby on my way to watch our boys play a championship basketball game. We lost. But at least I added to my F-count! For some reason, I'd never noticed the Adraien Block box until a couple of days before. Then I went out to Lebanon to get some of the new boxes I'd missed due to being sick at the February Winter Drive. And then, serendipitiously, I found the Raymond Hill Picnic Area... somewhere. My lips are sealed! Some quick snow boxing after work in Coventry. I was PRAYING for a thaw by this point! It was driving me crazy! Saturday morning after piano again, I grabbed some more boxes (say it with me) in the snow. Then I called Kreepy Kelli, and we hung out for a bit after she helped me snag Grave Matters. :) A nice long day in the Avon area with Music Woman and Kreepy Kelli. We found some awesome things in that cemetery where the Resurrection Bugs are. What on earth is that building? One short hour. In and out, but fun. The walk to Arachne was a lot longer than I anticipated! I ended up walking back down that trail in the dark, but it didn't get dark until I got to the tunnel, where it's dark anyway, really. I got out of the park safe and sound with four more finds under my belt. :) This got too hard in the snow. I gave up. This was a first! While stamping into Aaron's Birthday Box, I was questioned by a member of the US Army Corps of Engineers. However, they know all about letterboxing, so I didn't have to come up with a cover story. For a second, I was a bit flustered! OK, it wasn't snowing that day... it was sleeting! I finally solved those mystery boxes! But I'll never tell where they are... Then I went up Talcott Mountain. In the snow! Yeah, if you're tired reading it, it's because I was tired of hiking in it! Case Mountain was slushy that day but passable, definately. Just when I think I'm done with that place... A series after a piano lesson on a Saturday morning. Now, this was a fun day! Cut short only by the fact that it was starting to get dark. I went back the next day and *almost* finished the Journey Into Imagination. Again, it was starting to get dark, so I left. It doesn't even take that long! I just started late both days. It's a great series and totally worth it. So many fantastic stamps from boxers all around the country. I got all but the last one, because I encountered some paintballers. Dang. Gotta go back. A day in Chatfield Hollow cut short by rain (appropriately, one of Deb's Letterboxing Hazards.) These are so close to my home that I'd never gotten to that park before. Ever happen to you? Three days before I closed on my house, I decided I needed to go into the woods for a bit fo stress relief, and I ended up here. GREAT image by Chuck and Molly! I finished the south Elephant Safari and Barrows Pond, two days before the closing. Still feeling like I needed help with the stress, I guess! Two more that are close to home. I loved this park. I loved its charm. The blazes could use some refreshing, but other than that... I might go plant my own box there at some point. I really enjoyed being there. I can't explain what the quality was that it had. Got this stamp from the May Day Lillies while we were performing together. After all I'd heard about this "magical" park, I had to see it myself! It was absolutely fun. :) In fact, it was so fun that I had to go back the next day. :) But there is still so much more that I need to get! Another day full of surprises! I grabbed Long Hill Estate before piano, then swung through West Hartford on the way home. Wow! Grabbed quite a few at the awesome May Day gather. I met Northstar first thing in the morning by accident when he scared me to death by yelling at me from the duck blind! Then the two of us teamed up to find the rest of the boxes. We met up with Darth Lemy and Little Monkey at the "ziploc" box and did some of the scavenger hunt with them too. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it to the April Drive because of my sister's bridal shower, so I spent a full day at Cotton Hollow to make up for it. Shhh... I don't live in Glastonbury! An afternoon in Newington after dropping off my dress for my sister's wedding to be altered. The vew from the Jacob's Ladder box is beautiful! After work I ran out to get the Windham County stamp and some of its neighbors. This was when I thought I'd be able to get all the counties by the deadline. I grabbed the Watership Down boxes that eluded me in the snow, plus a few more!
